Wave’s editorial position:

Helping Those in Need

The Issue:

Dollar Ridge Fire destroys numerous homes and animal habitat

We Suggest:

Feel good about helping our neighbors

It is said that tragedy brings out the best and the worst in people.

This past week, following the ignition of a massive wild fire which began in Wasatch County near Strawberry Reservoir and quickly spread into neighboring Duchesne County, we have seen some of the best in people during this time of devastation.

When the call came from Duchesne County that fire fighting assistance, supplies and help with displaced pets was needed, Wasatch County and its residents stepped up to lend a helping hand to our western neighbors.

Our emergency services and wildfire fighting personnel have endured rough terrain, intense heat and life-threatening conditions to help get a handle on the blaze.

When help was needed for animals that have been evacuated and displaced due to homes in the fire’s path, our animal services and shelter, area kennels and fosters, and citizens did their part to place the frightened, homeless animals transported in from Duchesne County. Citizens also donated food, bedding, bowls and supplies for the animals.

Area stores and our local Chamber of Commerce rallied citizens to donate food, clothing and supplies for families that were evacuated – many of which have no home to go back to.

A local barbecue/meat smoker group even provided some meals to the firefighters who were working the blaze.

Through this tragedy, we have seen residents come to the aid of their fellow man and beast. Help will be needed in the future. However, we are proud of you Wasatch County! Thank you for your generosity.
