The melting of winter’s snow, like all things in nature, nurtures the first tender shoots of grass and the budding of leaves on the trees.

We, as a society, have also made our mark on what Mother Nature has so carefully laid out in her grand plan. Our contribution, however, is not so beautiful.

The crisp white blanket of winter snow hid our sins, but now with the spring thaw, we are faced with all the dirt and trash accumulation of the past months. We now have the daunting task of cleaning up our winter’s mess.

This is not a task that we can procrastinate on, now is the time to start the clean up. The county landfill is at our disposal and for a modest fee we can load up a mountain of trash and refuse and find a home for it at the landfill.

Home owners should clean up flower beds, sweep the leaves and debris from curbside gutters and generally spruce up their yards.

Each and every business in town should do the same.

Hose off your building, pick up trash and sweep the sidewalks and parking lots. A little preventative care can go a long way in how tourists in our community describe our fair valley.

We need to take pride in our homes and community and a little clean up can help accomplish just that.
