The Waspettes traveled to Davis High School in Kaysville Friday, December 6, for a 2 day drill team competition consisting of a Friday night solo and duet competition and Saturday all day team competition. The WHS drill team was one of 32 teams from 2A-5A competing in the 2013 Davis Valley Classic. The 4A division consisted of 11 teams competing for 1st-5th trophies.

Senior member and team captain, Mckell Stoddart, and junior member and secretary, Christy Ellsworth, gave outstanding performances in the Friday night solo competition. Brianna Rasband and Meagan Gregrich rocked the house in the duet event also held Friday. The four hour solo and duet competition ended with awesome results for the Waspettes. Congratulations go out to Mckell Stoddart earning a 3rd place trophy and Christy Ellsworth earning a 5th place trophy. Brianna Rasband and Meagan Gregrich earned 1st place in the duet division. Congratulations girls for bringing home some big trophies! (see picture)

Military division was the first event for the Waspettes on Saturday. Clearfield, Timpview, Sky View, Mountain Crest, Kearns, Spanish Fork, Ogden, Cyprus, Bountiful, and Logan proved to be extremely tough competition. The dance and creative character divisions proved to be just as intense. The Waspettes learned what it will take to compete against these talented and very experienced teams. Coaches and parents were extremely proud of the girls for holding up under the pressure.

Results of the Saturday team event placed the Waspettes 6th and 7th in the Dance and Military categories. Two penalties were given to the Waspette's character performance for dropping props which placed their routine near the bottom of the team tally.

The next and very important competition for the Waspettes will be this Friday and Saturday at UVU. The state drill team competition is held at UVU in February so experience on the floor and large stadium is crucial to ongoing routine adjustments and precision practice. The Waspettes will carefully review results and judges suggestions from the Davis Classic competition during early morning and afternoon practices this week. The team is working harder then ever and could use words of encouragement if you have the opportunity in person or on their Facebook page. 4A will be a big adjustment for the girls; but they deifnately still expect to excel!
