Although the dog days of summer are hanging on by a tenuous grip, Election Day on November 5th is fast approaching.

For the first time in years, no less than three community Meet the Candidates nights are slated.

First on the calendar is one sponsored by the Midway Boosters tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at the Midway Town Hall. This event is specifically for the community of Midway to meet the slate of candidates vying for Midway City’s Mayor and Council seats.

Next on the schedule is an informal candidate’s forum sponsored by the CornerStone of Freedom. This is slated for Tuesday, October 22 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Senior Citizen’s Center in Heber. One major drawback of this forum is this organization has a policy to not invite write-in candidates to participate.

Unfortunately, this year is the first time in memory that Heber City has an “officially registered” write in candidate who won’t be heard that night. Write-in candidate Erik Rowland is running against Alan McDonald and Mike Bardole in the Heber City mayoral race.

Finally we are sponsoring the last local Meet the Candidates Night of the election season. It is scheduled for Thursday, October 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Rocky Mountain Middle School. We have chosen to use an “open mic” moderated format, so come armed with questions you want any candidate running for office in the County to answer. All candidates and the community are invited to this event.

First and foremost, take advantage of getting to know who will be representing your interests during the next few years.

Please plan on attending as many candidate forums as possible. We need informed voters casting their ballots in the election.

Don’t forget that early voting opens on October 22 and runs through November 1. Call the city offices for more information as to specific times for each municipality.

Get out and VOTE!!
