The crowd of about 100 runners including WHS Athletic Director, Claire Mair, were decked out mostly in pink and were in great spirits as they got set to run.
McKell Kasper, whose mother Tess is recovering from the disease, is going to be a sophmore at Wasatch in the fall and is on the high school cheer team.
The 5K, which was organized by a friend of Tess’, Tyree Christiansen, was something the girls all wanted to do for their friend and fellow cheerleader.
“It really means a lot, yeah,” said McKell. “This is my first official 5K, so I’m happy it’s for such a good cause and for my mom,” she added.
The girls joked that their new coach has them running three miles a day anyway, so they were already up for the task.
“Its just really great to be able to show our support for McKell and her mother,” said Cheal. “Next week she will begin her eighth and last round of Chemo, so we’re just really so proud of her.”
The Wasp cheerleaders arrived carrying large pink balloons, which they held onto as they ran the race.
