Wasatch 1st and 2nd Singles Advance to State

On Monday and Tuesday, Utah girl's tennis held its Region 8 playoff rounds at Spanish Fork High School.

Wasatch's 1st Singles player, Rachel Wetterlin and 2nd Singles representative, Andrea Candland both had victories on the second day of play to advance to the state round.

Wetterlin, lost in the first round to Josi Braithwaite of Spanish Fork in a tough three-set match 2-6, 7-5, 6-4, to drop into the consolation round. Wetterlin, on day two, defeated Maple Mountain, No. 1, Ashley Brown to set up a rematch with Braithwaite. The Wasatch top singles player then got sweet revenge with a 6-4, 7-5 win to take 3rd place overall.

In 2nd Singles competition, Andrea Candland, a loser in Monday's first round, bounced back with a win in the consolation round on Tuesday. Candland took a three-set match 7-6, (7-4), 6-1 over Salem Hills' Ashley Whiting. In the 3rd place match, Candland fell to Ali Damon of Spanish Fork placing her 4th overall.

The state playoff rounds will be played Thursday, October 10 and Saturday, October 12 at Liberty Park in Salt Lake City.
