Bert W Winterton, 83, passed away peacefully in South Weber, Utah, on Nov. 1, 2017.

He was born in April 6, 1934, in Charleston, Wasatch County, Utah, the oldest son of Grant W and Mary Geniel Giles Winterton and graduated from Wasatch High School in 1952.He attended Dixie Junior College and married Elizabeth Ann Lundin May 29, 1954, in the St. George LDS Temple. He continued his education, earning a master’s degree at Utah State University and receiving additional schooling in Louisiana, Washington, Colorado, the University of Utah and Brigham Young University.

He taught high school in Arizona and later genetics and biology sciences from 1963-1993 at Weber State University. He received the WSU Crystal Crest Master Teacher Award in 1989 and an honorary doctorate in 2002. After retirement, he drove school bus for Davis School District for 12 years, and for Road Runner Transportation for three years, where he made many friendships. He has always been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various callings including bishop (1976-1980), Scouting, and ordinance worker for 13 years in the Bountiful LDS Temple. He and his wife served a mission in 1994-1995 as interpretation coordinators at the Provo MTC serving non-English-speaking missionaries.

He is survived by five of his six children: Kelly (Ruth Ann), Mt. Green; Lonny (Lynette), South Weber; Dale (Linda), Mt. Green; Crystal (Bart) McElyea, St. George; and Suzanne (Mike) Poulsen, Lincoln, Neb.; son-in-law Doug (Michelle) Clark, South Weber; 30 grandchildren; almost 47 great-grandchildren; and siblings Elaine (Doug) Turner of Calgary, Alberta, and Rex (Laurett) of Pine Valley, Utah.

Bert was preceded in death by his wife, Ann; his daughter, Marilee Clark; his parents; and brother, Dick.

Services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m., at the South Weber Stake Center, 7989 S. 2250 E., South Weber, Utah. A viewing will be held Friday evening at the church from 6-8 p.m. and Saturday prior to services from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Internment at the Uintah City Cemetery.
