Horsemen and horse lovers -- as well as the general public -- will be entertained and amazed to witness Jim Hicks exercise his particular set of gentle horse training skills when he "starts" two young horses, one wild and one domestic, on Thursday, November 5th at 6:00 p.m. Having worked with thousands of horses during his 25 year career in the equestrian world, Jim has developed an approach that focuses on engaging the horse's mind in order to gain trust and build confidence. Oftentimes, trainers speak of "breaking" horses. In contrast, Hicks prefers to think of this process as "starting" horses: starting them off on the positive note of harmony in the new relationship between horse and human. This is a place where the horse and the human can feel for one another in order to reach that sacred spot that provides a win-win situation for both beings. To watch this miracle unfold is like witnessing magic.
Directly following the 6:00 p.m. horse starting clinic in the Wasatch County Event Center (located in Heber City, Utah), Jim Hicks will be joined by nationally acclaimed trainer, author, and clinician Martin Black, as well as Ben Quinters, another well-known clinician, for a Horseman's Forum: an open discussion of horsemanship approaches. This will be an ideal venue to have many of your questions concerning horses answered.
These events are both part of Heber City's Annual Cowboy Poetry Gathering and Buckaroo Fair, details for which can be accessed at hebercitycowboypoetry.com where tickets including both events can be purchased for $25 ($27 at the door).
